Be Who You Are; Love What You Do

35 years ago this Spring, Paul began his career as an independent management consultant. His second client was a company founded in Madison, Famous Footwear. Since the strategic planning work Paul did with Famous was transformational by both necessity and design, Paul’s work with that organization spanned more than a decade. The company grew from 36 stores when it was purchased by footwear giant, Brown Shoe Company, to nearly 1,000 during Paul’s tenure. Based on the success of its renegade Madison division, Paul earned a reputation that led to work in St. Louis with all Brown’s businesses, branded and private label: sourcing, wholesale and retail. That work lasted another decade.

Since 1984, Paul has worked in numerous industries with manufacturing, retail, service and distribution businesses; and with the leaders of more than 175 companies. While he has worked with public companies, human service, government, trade and professional associations, arts, education and religious organizations, Paul’s exclusive focus today is established mid-sized, privately held companies, with a specialization in multi-generational family businesses.

At our May meeting Paul will offer insights and perspectives on the challenges many of us face in launching and building a sustainable consulting business with a focus on lessons learned from years of direct experience and a few missteps along the way.
